Hidden Treasure

Proverbs 4:20-23 KJV  [20] My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. [21] Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. [22] For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. [23] Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

God’s words require careful attention; constantly monitoring the Word with our eyes and ears for the discovery of it’s hidden treasures.  There is life and health in God’s Word, however it is only uncovered through intense narrowing of the focus of the consciousness and receptivity of the heart.  I believe the Passion Translation expresses more clearly the true essence of this passage:

Proverbs 4:21-23 TPT [21] Fill your thoughts with my words until they penetrate deep into your spirit. [22] Then, as you unwrap my words, they will impart true life and radiant health into the very core of your being. [23] So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.

Our reading and listening to the Word is not merely superficial but must be viewed as an expedition for that which penetrates the depths of the heart, where it is unwrapped and fully exposed as the spirit, life, health and substance it so abundantly contains.  Remember it is God’s Word, therefore the life it contains is His life…true life.   The Author of life has to know many things  about life, what makes it destitute and bless God, what causes it to flourish, and become abundant till it overflows that it may be enjoyed thoroughly!
