Isaiah 54:14-16 KJV 14 In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee. 15 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake. 16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.

Isaiah 54:16 reveals God as Creator.  “Creator” is the first name God reveals to us about Himself in scripture.  In Genesis, the first chapter and the first verse in the Bible show us who our God is.  He is CREATOR.  He is not “a” creator or someone who simply “creates,” He is THE Creator, because “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made” (John 1:3). Our God brought to life all things out of non-preexisting materials.

This verse in Isaiah conveys the truth that, The LORD, is the Creator and everything that can affect our welfare is subject to His power.  The blacksmith who manufactures the instruments of war or to torture is subject to the Creator.   The Almighty also created the fire that is the primary tool of the blacksmith and the metals he manipulates in the flames.

The KJV translates the Hebrew word “shachath” as “waster”.  However in Exodus 12 the same word is translated “destroyer”.  This is referring to a spiritual entity, probably Satan.  The LORD wanted Isaiah and the children of Israel to know they didn’t have to be concerned about any enemies human or otherwise for He the Creator of all things was greater than any threat to their well being.  This same Creator built the church and has given the church authority over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means harm the church.
