Is Anything Too Hard For The Lord?

Genesis 18:9-14 KJV  [9] And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. [10] And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. [11] Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. [12] Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? [13] And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? [14] Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

The question “Is any thing too hard for the LORD?” posed by God Himself was not an inquiry by the LORD intended to obtain some information. Our God is Omniscient, i.e. He knows all things.  God’s questions always point to something deeper.  He wants to reveal something to us or teach us something through the question.  God’s questions always serve a purpose.  For certain God’s questions should always provoke intense contemplation to know Him and His purposes better.

Let’s look closer at the word translated from the Hebrew as “hard”. Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon defines it “to be marvelous, be wonderful, be surpassing, be extraordinary, to be beyond one’s power, to be difficult to do or difficult to understand.”  So the question could be translated:

“Is anything too marvelous, wonderful, extraordinary for Jehovah…anything beyond His power, surpass His might and ability, too difficult for Him to do or to understand?”

Let’s also take a closer look at “LORD” in all caps in the King James Version.  When all capitol letters are use to translate God’s name it is the name most refer to in English as Jehovah.  It is God’s covenant keeping name.  It reminds all those who are a party to God’s covenant, that what God does, He does on the basis of an eternally binding relationship; a commitment to love i.e., share Himself/His life with them forever.  Jehovah wanted Abraham and Sarah to never conclude impossibility, nor imagine that any thing is beyond the realm of being fulfilled.

Our God, Almighty Jehovah is wonderful and nothing is beyond His extraordinary power to understand, to do, or to make.  He can heal a previously barren womb, he can restore to full functioning reproductive organs, and He can cause the greatest pleasures of life in old age!

Since God is the same yesterday, today and forever…Is it too hard for Jehovah to protect you from any virus, infection, organ failure, memory loss, or disease?
