2 Thessalonians 1:7 KJV And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

When Jesus appeared to His disciples in Matthew 28 He told them that all power (authority) in heaven and in earth had been given to Him.  It should come as no surprise that the Apostle Peter makes reference to angels being subject to Jesus.  Angels are not a race but a company.  They are vast in number and many of them can occupy a limited space at the same time. (Heb.12:22; Ps.68:17; Mat.26:53; Rev.5:11; Luke 8:30)

1 Peter 3:21-22 KJV 21 … by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: 22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

The most important point of all is that Jesus is seated high, above all angelic classifications, that all of creation was made by Him and for Him and that we, the believers, are seated together with Christ Jesus.  (Eph.1:20-21, 2:6; Col.1:16)  It is critical for believers to understand the ministry of angels, it will bolster their faith regarding the gracious provision of ministering angels to us by God Almighty (Heb.1:14):

  1. Protection from even accidental harm. Ps.91:9-12; Gen.19:15-16
  2. Deliverance from enemies in times of grievous terror and almost certain death. Ps.34:7; 2Kings 6:15-17; Dan.6:22; Acts 12:6-11
  3. Encouragement during extreme trials. Gen.28:12-13; Gen.32:1-2; Acts 27:20-25
  4. Bringing a message of wisdom and guidance. Matt.1:19-23, 2:13, 19-20; Acts 10:3-6
  5. Guarantee of the deliverance of God’s answer to prayers.  Dan.10:10-14
  6. Rejoicing over salvation. Luke 15:10, 12:8-9
  7. Reapers of righteous souls in the end of days.  Matt.13:30, 39; Mark 13:27

It is important to note that nowhere in scripture are believers instructed to worship nor pray to angels or to request their help.  However the assistance of angels is promised to those who fear God, who make the Lord their refuge and above all angels hearken to the voice of God’s word.  So let your heart ever reverently fear Him and abide in Him.  Jesus said “If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you.”
